STUDENTS CALL FOR PROTESTS OUTSIDE HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE EVENT OF WAR

Actions planned

Hey Everyone!,

This is an important time to organize against the war. This is Mark Rahman, one of the founding members of YAEWAR (Youth Against Exploitation War And Racism). YAEWAR helped organize a March 5 protest after school at Montgomery High School (where I am a sophmore). As many of you know, other walks outs, protests, and strikes are in the planning for the day after escalation (within a week!).

YAEWAR proposes that all of you organize some sort of demonstration in opposition to the war. Our suggestion is that you organize a demonstration outside your school at the end of the school day – that way you are not asking students to cut classes or anything and a larger number of students who agree but do not want to get in trouble can participate.  Already  - Voorhees Eastern near Camden has a rally planned for this Friday - wouldn't it be great if 5, 10, 20 or 100 high schools had demonstrations - large and small on the day after the attack?  Even if you have just 5 people or have 150 - it is still very important to show immediate response.  (WE thought we would get about 10 for our March 5 protest but ended up with about 70 at one time or another joining our line.)  .  If there is a sidewalk in front of the school - hold it there - if not - get permission from the police to hold it near the road at the entrance of the driveway into the school - the first 10 - 15 feet of the grass is usually public right of way.  We can help you with arrangements with police.

Attached is the flier we are using to get advance advertisement for our plan - I will send you the next one we will use shortly - once it is developed.

As the youth of America we must fight to preserve our rights, other people’s rights, and end war in ALL forms. We are not weapons, we are human beings!  We need to show the government that the youth are going to resist the war especially since it is your blood that the government plans to use to grease the wheels of the war machine.

We also suggest that you join a statewide list serve to organize high school resistance to the war by sending a message to .

Be encouraged to call me at 908-431-1620 or Matt Laney at 908-874-8461

Also, please make use of http://nowarnj.org/high_school_organizing.htm .  Give us your information and we will list you there.  For more on my organization, go to http://nowarnj.org/YAEWAR.htm .

We look forward to hearing back from you – please confirm as soon as possible that you are on board with an action at your high school and let us know if you need help dealing with the police in your town or anything else.

Sincerely,
Mark Rahman , Matt Laney , Jen Perrone , Shayna and Ryan

Piscataway High School - Every Wednesday at Municipal Complex (corner of Sidney Rd and Hoes Ln) 2:15pm - 3:30pm
Hello all, I spoke with my fellow protestors at Piscataway High School, who are very strong in their desire to make our vigil a weekly event, and also with the principal. He understands that he has no legal authority to stop or hinder the protest, and he agrees that it is important for students to have a forum for expressing their opinions. His only concern is the safety of the protestors. For that reason, he wants the Piscataway Police Dept to continue sending at least one plainclothes officer to keep an eye on the vigil. I told him that would be fine. So, there will be a vigil from 2:15 - 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Piscataway Municipal Complex (the corner of Sidney Rd and Hoes Ln in Piscataway, NJ). Please bring signs, musical instruments, peace flags, American flags, etc. People are welcome to park in the church parking lot on Hoes Lane or in the Municipal Complex parking lot on Sidney Rd. We would love to have as many adults as possible. I know quite a few adults who attend the mosque on Hoes Ln have expressed a desire to go (which would be great!) If you have any other questions (including directions), I would be happy to provide the info - Sarah Howard
